Pontifical Academy mourns the passing of Dr. Pellegrino
Dr. Edmund D. Pellegrino, Emeritus Member of the Pontifical Academy for Life, 11th President of the Catholic University of America and
senior scholar at Georgetown's Kennedy Institute of Bioethics passed away on June
13, 2013 at the age of 92.
Dr. Pellegrino, considered one of the fathers of Bioethics,
was also founder of the Center for Clinical Bioethics at Georgetown university,
founding editor of the Journal of Medicine and Philosophy, author of 23 books
and hundreds of articles on medical science, philosophy and ethics. Pellegrino served
as Chairman of the President's Council on Bioethics under former President
George W. Bush. With deepest sympathy, the entire community of the Pontifical
Academy for Life offers their heartfelt prayers for Dr. Pellegrino and his family.
